McClain goes on road to win at Manchester
On Monday, the McClain Lady Tigers traveled for non-conference action against the host Manchester Lady Greyhounds and returned to Highland County with a 54-49 victory.
The win moved the Lady Tigers to 15-5 overall on the season.
At the end of the first frame, it was McClain ahead of the Lady Greyhounds by a 8-4 score, and following a 15-10 second quarter in favor of Manchester, the Lady Tigers trailed at halftime by a 19-18 score.
After three frames, McClain still trailed at 34-33 with Manchester scoring 15 points in the third, while McClain scored 15 points as well. In the fourth, McClain exploded for 21 points and Manchester scored 15 points.
McClain was led in scoring by Kyla Burchett with 18 points, followed by Payton Pryor with 11 points and Bri Weller with 10 points.
Other scoring for McClain included Emma Stegbauer with eight points, Cierra Bolender with three points, Jaelyn Pitzer with three points and Josie Crabtree with one point.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lady Lions earn convincing SHAC win at Ripley
The Fairfield Lady Lions had a 20-point fourth quarter on Monday night, which helped propel them to a 64-51 win over the host Ripley Lady Blue Jays in SHAC play.
Fairfield trailed when the first quarter came to a close by a 15-14 score, but things changed in the second frame when they added 17 points to their side of the scoring column, while RHS was held to eight points for a halftime lead of 31-23.
The second half saw Fairfield score 13 points in the third, while Ripley also had 13 points in the same frame, but in the fourth frame the Lady Lions outscored RHS, 20-15.
Emma Fouch led FHS with 19 points as she had two 3-pointers, one two-point basket and she was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Peyton Magee totaled 15 points with four two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Madison Bronner was also in double-figure scoring with 14 points, as she made six two-point field goals and two free throws.
The rest of the Lady Lions’ scoring included Ella Newkirk with six points, Paris Priest and Hailey Tolle with four points each and Braylynn Haines with two points.
As a team, FHS was 23-of-28 from the free-throw line, and Ripley was 9-of-17. Azyiah Williams led RHS with 20 points, while teammates Reggie Taylor had 13 points and Riley Finn scored 12 points.

Tuesday, Feb. 4
BOYS BASKETBALL
Lions fall on road to state-ranked Blanchester
The Fairfield Lions faced a very tough opponent in state-ranked Blanchester on Tuesday night, falling by a 92-65 score at BHS in non-conference play.
The Lions trailed early by a 28-22 score, and then after trailing 19-16 in the second, they had a halftime deficit of 47-38. The game got away from FHS in the final two quarters with Blanchester winning the third at 31-13, and both teams scored 14 points in the fourth.
At the free-throw line, the Lions were 10-of-15 and the Wildcats were 15-of-23.
Fairfield was led in scoring by James Bentley with 22 points, followed by Bryson Simmons with 14 points. Wyatt Willey was also in double-figure scoring with 13 points.
The rest of Fairfield’s scoring included Jon Bentley and Reese Teeters with six points each, while Koben Zink and Caleb Payne each scored two points.

Tuesday, Feb. 4
BOYS BASKETBALL
Tigers gain road victory over Paint Valley
In a non-conference road game on Tuesday, the McClain Tigers earned their sixth win of the season by defeating the Paint Valley Bearcats by a 56-48 score.
MHS (6-11) trailed by a 14-10 score at the end of the opening quarter of action but fought back with a 21-point second quarter, while holding PVHS to seven points for a halftime lead of 31-21. In the second half, the Tigers scored 25 points, while the Bearcats added 27 points for a score of 56-48, giving MHS an eight-point win.
McClain was led in scoring by Bryson Badgley with 20 points. Also scoring in double digits was Braden Wright, who scored 10 points for the Tigers.
Lyle White followed with nine points, with Preston Saunders adding eight points. Camden Closson chipped in five points, followed by Braeden Bergstrom with three and Matt Bliss with one point.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hillsboro drops road game to Zane Trace
Going on the road for a non-conference game on Tuesday, the Hillsboro Lady Indians were unable to gain the upper hand and lost to the host Zane Trace Lady Pioneers by a 53-40 score in non-conference play.
HHS trailed by a 10-7 score at the end of the first quarter, and HHS followed that with 15 points in the second, compared to Zane Trace scoring seven points for a 22-17 Hillsboro lead at halftime. In the third, HHS was outscored 17-4 and were also outscored by ZTHS in the fourth at 19-14.
The Lady Indians were led in the scoring column by Gracie Dean with 11 points, followed by Mallory Parsons with nine points and Brynn Bledsoe with eight points. Next were Karleigh Hopkins with seven points, Josie Hopkins with four points and Kayden Watson scored one point.
Lauren Lane led ZTHS with 19 points.
As for HHS, Josie Hopkins led HHS with seven rebounds, and next was Karleigh Hopkins with six rebounds, while Dean collected five rebounds. Josie Hopkins and Dean each led HHS with two assists, and Dean was the leader in steals with five. Karleigh Hopkins and Parsons each recorded a blocked shot.
