Art created by Greenfield Elementary fifth-graders will go up for auction on the school’s Facebook page this week with proceeds to benefit St. Jude’s.

Starting Friday, March 7, one-of-a-kind art pieces by the fifth-graders of Greenfield Elementary will be displayed on the “Greenfield Elementary School” Facebook page and can be bid on there. The auction will run until Sunday, March 9.

The fifth-graders worked in different mediums on 8-inch by 10-inch canvases. The mediums used and the subject matters represented were their choice, art teacher William Roller said.

“As their teacher, I felt it was important to show my students how art can touch lives. Doing something for others builds character, and these students have a ton of it,” Roller said previously.

This is the third annual Art for a Cause. In the last two years, students have raised nearly $1,800 through the auction of their original artworks. In the first year, proceeds were split between the Highland County Homeless Shelter and the Highland County Humane Society. The proceeds from last year’s event went to a local student battling leukemia. The money raised through this year’s auction will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All causes supported have been chosen by the students.

“We have been fortunate that area businesses have stepped in helping Art for a Cause to be a success,” Roller said, with C&C Barber Shop in year one and RoofX in year two. “We invite everyone to browse our student's artwork and bid to help a worthwhile cause. These 5th grade tigers are excited to have the chance to give back via their artistic talents.”
