It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lester "Nelson" Thompson, who left us peacefully on April 13, 2025 at the age of 80.

He was born Nov. 14, 1944, in Plummer's Run, Morehead, Ky., the son of the late Lester and Naomi (Hall) Thompson.

Having retired from the Hills & Dales Training Center as the Janitorial and Lawn Services Manager, Nelson had a wonderful blend of skills and passions. Known for his keen eye behind the camera, he was a talented photographer who loved capturing moments at events like the Highland County Fair. His woodworking skills were also something to admire, alongside his dedication as a volunteer firefighter with the Paint Creek and Marshall Fire Departments. Nelson's love for the outdoors and traveling was matched only by his love for family and friends, many of whom he made wherever he went. He had an infectious smile and a big heart, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh.

Nelson was not just a dedicated husband to his high school sweetheart, Pamela (Huff) Thompson, with whom he shared a beautiful 61 years of marriage; he was also a devoted father to his sons, Jamie (Michelle) Thompson of Greenfield and Michael (Audrie) Thompson of Indianapolis, Ind.; the pride of his life, grandchildren, Courtney (Tommy) Lubbers, Jessica (Shane) Thompson, Sarah (Jay) Beatty, Wyatt Thompson, Abigail Thompson and Olivia Thompson. Nelson was a proud great-grandfather to Rilee Reser, Oliver Lubbers, Aria Hazlett, Calvin Lubbers, Waylon Thompson, Rawlins Beatty and Elyse Beatty, who brought endless joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary (Jerry) Patton and Janet Dotson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Jerrilyn Thompson; and brother-in-law, Nelson Dotson. Nelson lived a full and vibrant life, calling Hillsboro home his lifetime.

His family will cherish the memories and the legacy of love he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Papaw. You will be deeply missed. In keeping with his wishes, Nelson will be cremated.
