Norman R. Fent
Norman R. Fent, 78, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023.
Norman was born Sept. 11, 1944 in Bainbridge.
He attended the Sinking Spring Community Church and was a former member of the Festival of the Bells Committee and the Hillsboro Lions Club. Norman worked for Smith & Hopkins Lumber Co. in Hillsboro and retired from Halliday Lumber Company in Washington C.H. after 34 years of service.
On Feb. 18, 1982, Norman was united in marriage to Mary (Montgomery) Fent, who survives. He is also survived by one son, Chad Fairley of Hillsboro; two daughters, Daphanie (Michael) Elmore of Hillsboro and Mandie (Tracy) Workman of Martinsville; six grandchildren, Jessica (Cory) Fearon, Richard (Andi) Miller, Erika (Rick) Crabtree, Alicia Reed, Travis Elmore and Carmon Wilkin; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Fairley of Hillsboro, Joan (Dale) Bayless of Hillsboro and Loretta Jenkins of Mt. Sterling; brother, Oscar (Diane) Hopkins of Hillsboro; brother-in-law, Norman Carmean of Hillsboro; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his mother and father, Betty (Smith) Hopkins and George Hopkins; son, Mitchel (Mike) Fairley; sister, Roberta (Punk) Carmean; and brother-in-law, John Fairley.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 17, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Pastor Greg Seaman will officiate, with burial following in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
