June Baker Rhude
June Baker Rhude, 95, of Greenwood, S.C., passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023.
She was born in Hillsboro, the daughter of the late Ethan and Pauline Ferguson Baker and the wife of the late Joseph Irvin Rhude.
Married to Joseph in 1946, they lived in Hillsboro and raised four sons. In the early years, she worked outside the home to help make ends meet and was a homemaker, instilling a “spotless is the only way to do it” attitude that helped form a great work ethic in her four boys. She had a great eye for decorating and owned her own antique shop early on. She loved to garden, taking great care of her geraniums.
When Joseph retired, they loved to travel in their RV all over the United States, later splitting their years between Ohio and Florida before moving to South Carolina full time. She loved animals, both watching hummingbirds at her feeder, the deer in her yard and especially her many dachshunds. She was a wonderful cook; loved baseball, especially the Cincinnati Reds, reading and anything sweet to satisfy her sweet tooth; and was fiercely loyal and proud of her husband, her sons and the families they created.
June is survived by three sons, Jeff Rhude and wife Vicki Rhude of Hillsboro, Jay Rhude and wife, the late Donna Rhude of Greer, S.C., Jody Rhude and wife, Lisa Rhude of Alpharetta, Ga.; a sister, Joy Baker Lamb; seven grandchildren, Julie, Joey, Natalie, Stephanie, Ashley, Lindsay and Killian; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a dachshund.
She was predeceased in death by a son, John Rhude; and a brother, George Baker.
In lieu of flowers to the family or specific donations to one of the family’s causes, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ohio.

I styled Junes' hair for many years. She was always pleasant and we had many laughs together. Missed her when she moved away, but will think of her fondly. My sympathy to son Jay.
