Roger was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Army Transportation Corps as a helicopter and aircraft mechanic and repairman. He achieved the rank of SP5 and earning the National Defense Service Medal, the U.S. Armed Forces Vietnam Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and one overseas service bar.

Roger was active in many activities and community services. He was an avid drag and 4-wheeler racer. A rally champion and rally master in the Southern Ohio Four Wheelers, serving in all capacities. He was a member of the Highland County Dart Association, Sweat Hogs Volleyball Team, and a charter member of the Brush Creek Vineyards. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Special thank-you to Gerold "Buzzard" Wilkin, lifetime friend, fellow veteran and Goofy Golf comrade. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and proclaiming "wow, what a ride."

Friends may call Monday, Feb. 3 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Dunkard Ridge Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.

An Ode of Thanks:
You Stepped Up

When months; turned into years
You Stepped Up

When many hats were required daily
You Stepped Up

When compassion, love, strength, and support were needed
You Stepped Up

When life called on the many friends to move forward on their own paths
You Stepped Up

Ever Constant, The lone anchor in tumultuous seas
You Stepped Up

Thank You Terri Ford, for giving unconditional devotion, to your brother and a friend to so many
You Stepped Up

Terri, you were an awesome sister for my friend Roger. I know some lazy tales on him,you being the loving kind person you are and a loving sister to him, is only one of many that makes you a very special woman that this world needs more of. Luv ya Terri and my condolences, and prayers are being sent your way

The earth has truly lost a kind person. I had the privilege of knowing Roger many moons ago, when he was with Trisha. He was a funny, kind, genuine person. We lost touch over the years, and oddly enough, he ended up in the same nursing home where my mom was. I would stop and chat with him and it seemed like it hadn't really been over 40 years since we had seen each other. It is always sad to hear about a good one no longer among us.
