Tommy I. Byrd

Tommy I. Byrd, 71, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. 

He was born Dec. 10, 1951, in Lexington, Ky., the son of the late John Floyd Byrd and Hazel Fern (Faulkner) Byrd. 

Tommy was a carpenter for over 20 years and enjoyed woodworking, painting, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge 147 F&AM, and he loved Kentucky basketball and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed. 

Tommy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Spivey Byrd, whom he married in 1970; a daughter, Lisa (Robert) Moffitt of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Robbie (TJ) Moffitt, Bethany (Trevor) O’Bryant and Isom Byrd; two great-grandchildren, Bria McDonald and Parker O’Bryant; four siblings, Esther (John) Main of Delaware, Ohio, Janie Smith of Miamisburg, Jim (June) Byrd of Campton, Ky. and Ralph (Linda) Byrd of Dayton; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Byrd and Mary Ellen Spivey; a brother-in-law, Howard (Virginia) Runk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas “Tommy” Lee Byrd in 2014; and three siblings, Henrietta Lammers, Faye Plemmons and Jack Byrd. 

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow services in the Hillsboro Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Tommy’s name to the Hospice of Fayette County, 222 Oakland Ave., Washington Court House, Ohio 43160.
