Thanks for 20 years: The final Daryle Unger & Peanut Memorial Fishing Derby
The 20th and final Daryle C. Unger & Peanut Memorial Kids Fishing Derby was held Saturday, June 3 at the Mitchell Park pond in Greenfield and was another huge success.
A total of 345 kids attended in three age groups, and everyone participating received a toy or prize along with several special grand prizes at the end of each session that included bicycles, gift cards and cash.
Jimmy and Liz Jones, organizers of this annual event, along with Craig, Emily and Maggie, wanted to thank all of their loyal and fantastic volunteers who have donated countless hours of their time to help make these derbies special to the thousands of Greenfield-area children who have attended over the years.
Jimmy and Liz also would like to thank all of the many businesses and individuals who continued to make heartfelt contributions even during some difficult economic times.
"None of this could have possible without the continued and caring support of so many businesses and individuals who wanted to make this a special event for the hundreds of children who participated annually," Jimmy Jones said.
"There are not enough words to express how much Liz and I appreciate all of our volunteers and supporters who helped bring smiles to the faces of so many, if only for that one special day. We love all of you and will never forget your generosity over the past 20 years!"
The Joneses also mentioned that they are hoping to help a new group of younger volunteers and individuals plan a new fishing derby for next year under a different name.
