Backers of a proposal to eliminate noncompete agreements in Ohio made their case before a state Senate committee last month. The measure would prohibit employers from imposing restrictions on where their employees work once they’ve left their current job.
A bipartisan pair of Ohio lawmakers want to ban noncompete contracts as a condition of employment in the state. In response to the proliferation of those post-employment contracts, federal regulators attempted to prohibit them nationwide last April — an effort which was blocked by the courts.
On Tuesday, the Federal Trade Commission issued a final rule to promote competition by banning noncompetes nationwide, protecting the fundamental freedom of workers to change jobs, increasing innovation and fostering new business formation.
