Week 4 Football Preview: Bearcats looking for first victory of 2010

BAINBRIDGE - The Paint Valley Bearcats are still looking to gain their first win of the season, and entering week four, the task will not get any easier with the undefeated Southeastern Panthers on the schedule as the first week of Scioto Valley Conference play kicks off.
The Panthers (3-0) use a Pro-I offensive attack with a lot of Iso and trap plays, according to Paint Valley head coach Pete Hollon. He said SE also likes to use a mid-line option attack as well.
This season, the Panthers have defeated Northwest, Fayetteville and Manchester. Last week, the Panthers took down Manchester, 38-13.
SE has three players who stand out and who have been apart of their big start this season.
Their quarterback, Christian Colburn, is described as being very quick. Colburn also has weapons in the backfield with Adam Cottrill and Stephen Hall.
"Colburn and Hall are very quick and Cottrill is a typical, smash mouth fullback," Hollon said. "All three are good skill kids. Their QB is a three-year starter and does what a senior should do when he is on the field."
Hollon said he noticed that Southeastern plays with confidence each week.
"They are playing with confidence and are off to a good start," he said. "Playing with confidence is something we've lacked this season."
Last week, the Bearcats (0-3) lost 42-7 to the McClain Tigers in a non-league game, and PV have also lost to New Miami and Williamsburg to start the season.
But this week the defense the Bearcats will face a 4-3 defensive look from a team that will blitz 85 percent of the time.
"They mainly blitz with their linebackers and on any given play will bring at least one player on a blitz," Hollon said. "Their front four do a good job and keep the offensive line away from their linebackers."
Hollon said even though his team went winless in non-league games, he still wants his team to be prepared for this week.
"We just have to find an offensive identity because we haven't done much on offense this season," he said. "Confidence is contagious and so is giving a true effort on each and every play and this year that is something we haven't done up to this point.
"We can't afford to make mistakes and I hope we gain the confidence we have been lacking this week. Everyone is disappointed where we are at right now and some of our practices haven't been where we've wanted them to be either. We need to realize we are in league play now and we need to put the first three games behind us and be ready to play this week."
