Week 2 Football Preview: Bearcats look to rebound against Williamsburg

BAINBRIDGE - Each team will be coming off a week one loss, so the desire to gain the season's first win will be strong when the Paint Valley Bearcats and Williamsburg Wildcats take the field Friday night at Paint Valley High School.
The Bearcats are hosting their second straight game of the season, coming off a close 16-13 loss to the New Miami Vikings.
The Williamsburg Wildcats, of the Southern Buckeye Athletic Conference, are hitting the road after losing to Summit Country Day, 28-0. PV and WHS have seen some similar opponents as the Wildcats scrimmaged New Miami in the preseason.
Paint Valley head coach Pete Hollon said the Wildcats like to run a pistol offense.
"Their offense line are very tall and all average 6-2, 240 pounds," he said. "They have an All-District tackle that is 6-3, 260 (Billy Hickey) and Matt Richardson is an All-District wide receiver at 6-3, 190."
Also returning to Williamsburg is senior Kevin Keaton who is a dual-threat at the QB position.
"They are skilled and do a good job," Hollon said. "They (Williamsburg) are milt demential and I would say they are 50-50 pass to run."
Even though they didn't score a single point in their season opener the Bearcat coaching staff believes Williamsburg can move the football in a variety of ways.
"They moved the ball well at times," Hollon said. "They had some plays that did bite them, but they didn't have trouble moving the ball."
Defensively the Wildcats (0-1) use a 5-2 formation and as described by Hollon are very, very big up front.
"Not only are they big up front, but have two 220 pound linebackers. Hickey is a tackle and Richardson is a defensive end."
Another big time player is 6-2, 225 linebacker Michael Posey.
"He's (Posey) is a nice player," Hollon said. "When they are on defense they (WHS) will blitz 80 percent of the time. They like to bring the linebacker behind a slant or send their safeties off the edge. They are just a solid team. Not many weaknesses and they are disciplined."
The Wildcats will be a test for the Bearcats, but one positive for Paint Valley had in a loss to the New miami Vikings was they got their freshman a lot of playing time in a varsity atmosphere.
"Our freshman were thrown into the fire and they gained the experience of playing on a Friday night and they grew up a lot," Hollon said. "But what we need to do is read our keys. Like last week, if we don't do that, then we will be unsuccessful.
"We played extremely hard, but we need to match that intensity with intelligence on the field. It basically just comes back to basic fundamentals. We need to key in, do our own job and rely on our other 10 teammates."
Another positive for PV last Friday was the rushing game, and that was even without Garett Tyree who missed the game due to injury.
"I liked the fact we ran for 260 yards and put four drives of 12 plays together," Hollon said. "Anytime you get 260 yards rushing you have to be happy."
But what Hollon is looking for is more emotion from his football team.
"I want to see more emotion from the get-go. I thought we were flat coming out of the locker room and we (as coaches) need to push that emotion right out of the locker room," Hollon said.
