Tigers win tri-match at EC

On Dec. 30, the McClain wrestling team had a tri-match at East Clinton High School.
The third team that made up the tri-match was Hamilton Badin. Badin and East Clinton matched up first and the outcome was very lopsided.
East Clinton scored six points and the visiting team from Hamilton scored over sixty points for the win, as the Hamilton Badin Rams are a D3 school that has several wrestlers ranked highly in the state.
McClain's first match started at 160-pounds, with Joe Unger (M) starting off with a quick first period pin. Joe Barnhart (M) and Gary Ryan (M) followed with identical results.
John Caskey (M) received a forfeit. The score was 24-0 (M) after the first four matches. The heavyweight match went the distance with the Badin wrestler coming out on top, 7-0.
With the score at 24-3, the lineup flipped back to the top of the order, neither team had 103 or 112 pound wrestlers.
Badin received a forfeit at 119 making the score 24-9. The wrestler at 125 pounds for the Badin Rams pinned MHS.
The score closed to 24-15, and got closer receiving a forfeit at 130, the Rams were now within three points, 24-21.
With the pressure on, with only a few weight classes left, the Rams had gained all of the momentum and still had two state ranked wrestlers remaining, the first of which stepped on the mat next quickly proving his ranking, he won by pin.
Now the lead belonged to the Rams 27-24, and increased more after receiving a forfeit at 140lbs, the score was now 33-24.
Steven Barber (M) accepted the challenge won the next match, 10-8. The win earned three team points, making the score 33-27.
The Tigers received a forfeit in the last match. Richie Rayburn got the forfeit at 152, tying the score, 33-33.
Since there are no ties in wrestling, the Tigers won the tie breaker criteria, due to an unsportsmanlike conduct call, during Barber's match. The criteria winner gets one team point added, making the final score McClain 34-33.
After the victory against Badin, the Tigers had the home team, East Clinton, to contend with. MHS won each match by won by pin, with the final score 52-0.
This brings the Tigers dual meet record to 7-5 and 16-13 overall.
Up next for MHS is a league tri-match with London and the SCOL leading Miami Trace Panthers at Miami Trace High School on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. The varsity, junior varsity, and middle schools will all compete.[[In-content Ad]]
