Tigers one win away from SCOL title; defeat Falcons

GREENFIELD — The McClain Tigers are one South Central Ohio League win away from becoming back-to-back boys soccer champions. 

On Thursday night at McClain Field, the Tigers scored three goals in each half for a 6-1 league win over the Clinton-Massie Falcons. 

McClain won their first SCOL boys soccer championship last season, and if they can defeat the London Red Raiders on Monday, they will clinch the outright title. If MHS wins their next two SCOL games, they will have an undefeated mark in the SCOL for the first time. 

Earlier in the season, MHS defeated Miami Trace and tied the Red Raiders. 

MHS currently stands at 8-0-2 in the SCOL and 10-2-2 overall. Monday's home game against London is a makeup game from a previous rainout that occurred the week of the Highland County Fair. 

But on Thursday, the Tigers defended their home field with the heart of a champion by scoring three goals in the first half for a 3-0 lead. In the second half, they outscored the Falcons 3-1. 

"We came out flat, but got on a roll and put away goals," MHS coach Shawn Jackson said. "We tied Clinton-Massie earlier this season, so our guys were pumped up to play this game." 

In the first half, MHS scored with a goal by Geoffrey Mitchell, which was assisted by Daniel White.  

Sam Henry followed with a goal, assisted by Luis Rivas. The third goal of the game came from White, who was assisted by Trey Lytle. 

In the second half, Henry scored McClain's first two goals. Those goals were assisted by Jimmy Free and Rivas. Rivas scored the final MHS goal with the assist by Shane Hall. 

Ryan Case had 10 saves for the Tigers in the SCOL win.
