Tigers fall in home opener to Golden Eagles

GREENFIELD — The basketball just wouldn't fall through the hoop Friday night for the McClain Tigers. MHS, playing in their home opener, didn't score in double digits in any quarter, as they fell to the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles, 36-31 at McClain High School.
The loss is the Tigers' fourth straight, starting the season at 0-4, with two of the losses being South Central Ohio League losses.
MHS did play tough defense, keeping their opponent under 40 points. In fact, MHS (0-2, 0-4) led after the opening frame by an 8-7 score.
In the second quarter, MP (1-1, 2-1) added 12 points to their total, with MHS scoring nine. MP led 19-17 after two quarters.
MHS won the third at 7-5, but in the last eight minutes of the game MP rallied with another 12-point effort, while holding the Tigers to their second straight 7-point quarter.
Zach Uhl and Scott Balzer each made two 3-pointers for the Tigers, en route to lead MHS in the scoring department, with Balzer netting 10 and Uhl finishing with nine.
Zach Matracia had six points, followed by Jared Loftis with four. Aaron Pryor had two points.
MHS was 9-of-15 from the free-throw line for 60 percent.
As for the Golden Eagles, Dugger led with a game-high 19 points, making one 3-pointer. Davis followed with five, including a 3-pointer.
MP was 18-of-28 from the free-throw line for 64 percent.
MHS committed nine turnovers, but forced MP into 16.
The Tigers play again on Tuesday, Dec. 14, traveling to London. MP plays at Washington (Blue Lions) on Dec. 18. Both are SCOL games.
