CLARKSVILLE — The McClain Tigers lost their third straight game to start the season, falling 51-37 to the Clinton-Massie Falcons in a South Central Ohio League game at CMHS Tuesday night.
MHS (0-1, 0-3) kept the game close in the first half, trailing 19-13 at halftime. In the first quarter, MHS was outscored 11-9 and 8-4 in the second frame, as each team played top defense.
That changed in the final 16 minutes of game time, with CM leading the way with a
combined second-half score of 32-24.
CM scored 17 points in the third and 15 in the fourth, compared to MHS scoring 13 and 11 points in the same two quarters, respectively.
MHS was led by Scott Balzer with 11 points, followed with eight points (including two 3-pointers) by Zach Uhl.
Jared Loftis finished with seven points, and Zach Matracia had six. Roger Carroll and Aaron Pryor each had two points. Tanner Vanzant had one.
The Tigers shot 45 percent from the free-throw line at 9-of-20 with 13 field goals (including 3-pointers).
As for the Falcons (1-0, 2-0), they were led in scoring by Utrecht with 12 points, followed by Burgess with 11.
CM was 11-of-18 from the free-throw line at 61 percent.
MHS will host the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles on Friday for their first home game of the season.
