OU’s Mathews signs with Green Bay Packers as undrafted free agent

Ohio University football alumnus Rodney Mathews signed with the Green Bay Packers Saturday as an undrafted free agent.
 
Mathews (Memphis, Tenn.) has been a staple on the Bobcats' defensive line since 2021 and started in 12 of 13 games in 2023. Well-regarded as a leader among his peers, Mathews served as one of Ohio's captains last season. 
 
In total, he participated in 41 games since he came to Athens in 2020, recording 71 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. He snagged his first career interception during Ohio's historic victory over the Iowa State Cyclones (Sept. 16, 2023), allowing the Bobcats to end the game in victory formation. 
 
Prior to Ohio, Mathews competed at Hutchinson Community College in 2019, serving as a team captain and earning All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference honors. He came to Hutchinson CC by way of Craigmont High School, where he earned Region 4A Defensive Player of the Year honors.
