DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs boys soccer team has finished the regular season undefeated.

The Mustangs earned their final win on Saturday with a 4-2 non-league victory over the Zane Trace Pioneers, of the Scioto Valley Conference, at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

"This was a great high school contest," LC coach Dennis West said. "We played an excellent match against a very talented team.

"This win gives us an undefeated regular season. We were focused, and it showed."

The Mustangs wrap up the 2010 regular season with a 14-0-2 overall record and a 6-0-1 Southern Hills League mark, where they were crowned the SHL Division I champions.

LC began the game with three first-half goals to take a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The trio of Michael Smith, Kaique Costa and Tyler Davidson all put the ball in the back of the net during the first 40 minutes of play, while the LC defense kept the Pioneers at bay with zero goals allowed.

Smith was first to put the Mustangs in the lead with 25:02 left in the half. His goal was scored as he beat the defender of ZT.

Costa also beat the defense of the Pioneers, with 8:44 remaining in the opening half.

Davidson's goal came off a pass by Smith, as Davidson, a junior, gave the Mustangs a 3-0 lead on their home field with 8:30 left in the first half, scoring his goal 14 seconds after Costa put LC up 2-0.

Davidson scored the final goal for LC at the 35:47 mark of the second half, beating the keeper, putting the Mustangs up by four goals.

Kameron Wolfe and Kody Payne scored goals for the Pioneers at the 31:04 and 16:08 marks of the final 40 minutes of play. Wolfe's goal was scored on a free kick from 28 yards away. Payne beat the defense of LC with a 25-yard kick.
