BAINBRIDGE – The Westfall Mustangs were able to add another win to their Scioto Valley Conference winning streak as they outscored the Paint Valley Bearcats 14-0 in the third quarter, spoiling the Bearcats’ homecoming 35-24 Friday night.

The win gives Westfall a 35-game SVC winning streak, improving their overall record to 3-2. In the SVC the Mustangs are 2-0.

As for the Bearcats, they tied the game 6-6, with both teams missing their extra point opportunities in the first quarter.

Westfall was the first to score Friday night when Vinny Williamson rushed for a 2-yard score with 6:51 left in the opening quarter.

Ten seconds later, Wes Parker tied the game at six all with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Williamson came back in the second quarter for his second touchdown of the game, when he took the ball to the end zone on a 13-yard run. He also ran the ball for the 2-point conversion, giving Westfall a 14-6 lead.

Parker again brought the Bearcats to the end zone, this time on a 69-yard dash with 5:08 left in the first half. The 2-point conversion failed, keeping Westfall in the lead at 14-12.

Westfall controlled the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns, increasing their lead to 28-12 after three quarters.

The quarter belonged to Jake Cantell. Cantell scored twice in a two minute span to add to the Mustang total.

At the 10:11 mark of the third quarter Cantell rushed the ball for 50 yards to pay dirt. The PAT was good.

With 8:10 left in the same quarter, he took the ball 16 yards for the score.

Westfall gained a 35-12 lead after Williamson scored his third TD against the Bearcats on a 4-yard run at the 11:18 mark of the final quarter.

PV scored two more times in the fourth quarter, with the first score coming as quarterback Brennen Dove pounded his way to the end zone on a 4-yard blast with 10:08 left in regulation. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.

The final PV score came when Ben Krech recovered a fumble in the end zone with 7:51 left in the fourth.

Parker finished with 133 yards rushing on 10 carries. Dove rushed for 78 yards on 11 rushes.

Dove also passed for 94 yards, going 7 of 16.

Garett Tyree caught five passes for 76 yards.

On defense for PV, Adam Cooper led with 13 tackles. Krech had 10 tackles and one quarterback sack. Jeremiah Tennent earned eight tackles and a third quarter interception.

“We are extremely disappointed with the loss,” Paint Valley head coach Pete Hollon said. “The kids played their butts off for the first two quarters, but the third quarter really hurt us. It was a total disaster. Nothing went right on offense, defense or special teams.”

Hollon did like the way his kids battled late in the game.

“Credit our kids, they came back within nine points,” Hollon said. “In the final three minutes we drove down to their 12-yard line, but just couldn’t punch it in.”

On the final play of the game the Bearcats fumbled the football.

“Adam (Cooper) played an excellent game on both sides of the ball,” Hollon said. “Defensively he was all over the field. I was also pleased with the way Nolan Taylor played on the defensive line. Brennen (Dove) played his best game of the year.”

In week six the Bearcats travel to 2-3 (1-1) Adena.

The loss drops PV to 2-3 overall, 1-1 in the SVC.
