McDonald wins Ohio Classic

GREENFIELD — The 2010 Ohio Classic belonged to McClain's Jon McDonald.
McDonald not only won the Classic, beating 199 other runners from 28 schools, but he won the event with a time of 16:55, eight seconds better than the second-place finisher on the 3.11 mile course at Liberty Park on Saturday.
Runners of the event had to not only battle other runners but brave the elements of running up and down hills along with other obstacles at the park.
McDonald was followed on the course by teammate Caleb Mootispaw in fourth place at 17:20.
Fairfield's Michael Mangus was ninth with a time of 17:42 to give Highland County three finishers in the Top 10.
Hillsboro's Collin Rothwell was 26th with a time of 18:35.
FHS was the best finishing Highland County team with a 10th place finish at the Classic. The Lions scored a total of 314 points. The winning team was Kings with 51 points.
Besides Mangus, the remaining finishers for the Lions were: 36, Blake Hildebrant, 19:02; 77, Wyatt Crothers, 20:12; 81, John Cain, 20:22; Chris Webb, 21:29; Elijah Carmean, 21:33 and Tanner Ayres, 23:34.
The remaining McClain finishers included: 48, Chris Eltman, 19:26; Evan Onusko, 22:00; Richie Rayburn, 22:18; Adomas Fabin, 22:32 and Daniel Addington, 23:23. The Tigers as a team were 11th with a score of 318.
Hillsboro finished 13th with 341 points. Their remaining finishers included: 51, Ricky Coyle, 19:28; 52, Nathan Boone, 19:30; 83, Jon Bolton, 20:23; Christian Gunderman, 22:07; Brendan Eltzroth, 23:26 and Guy Bailey, 23:26.

In the girls run at the Ohio Classic, Hillsboro had seven runners, with Alissa Hauke being the top HHS finisher at 23:15 for 44th.
The winner of the event was London's Sara Taylor with a time of 19:54, winning the Classic by nine seconds over second place.
Other HHS finishers included: 68, Maggie Tamborski, 24:33; 69, Emily Bolton, 24:38; 79, Brittany Ferrell, 25:39; Shelby Bobbitt, 27:54; Krista Savage, 27:55 and Alyssa Miley, 31:26.
Fairfield's Heather Cox had a time of 25:50 for 84th, and McClain's Sarah Davis was 88th out of 239 runners with a time of 26:10.
