MAC Baseball: Day one evening recap

CHILLICOTHE - An upset brewed Wednesday at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe as Eastern Michigan, a No. 7 seed, defeated the No. 2 seeded Kent State Golden Flashes 12-4 in the third game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Eagles jumped to a 4-1 lead after the first inning was finished and held a five-run lead after three innings were in the books.
Both teams scored two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth. The Eagles added two runs in the top of the ninth.
EM colllected 14 hits, while KSU has 12.
Washington C.H. graduate and KSU third baseman Travis Shaw was 4-for-4 at the plate. Shaw, who bats fourth in the order, forced one walk, scored one run and had one RBI. The RBI came in the first inning off a double to left-centerfield.
Kendal Lewis was the winning pitcher, going seven strong innings on the mound. He had four strikeouts and allowed 10 hits.
With the win the Eagles jump to 26-30 overall, while KSU falls to 34-23.
KSU will play Thursday at 9 a.m. in the losing bracket against Miami. EM will face Toledo on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be at VA Memorial.

In the fourth and final game played Wednesday in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, No. 1 seeded Central Michigan defeated the No. 8 seed Ohio Bobcats 13-9.
Of their 13 runs scored, eight were tallied in the fourth inning by CM.
CM scored four runs in the first and OU tallied five runs in the second and third for a 5-5 tied game, as CM scored one run in the second. OU had a short-lived 6-5 lead once they were finished with the top of the fourth, but CM answered with the aforementioned eight-run inning.
Ohio scored two in the sixth and one in the ninth for their final runs of the ballgame.
CM will now take on Bowling Green on Thursday at 4 p.m. OU will face Ball State at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Both games will be at VA Memorial.
The win gives CM an overall record of 34-20 as they were the MAC West Division champions. OU stands at 20-34.
