Lynchburg-Clay moves to 2-0; dominates Huntington

CHILLICOTHE — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs improved to 2-0 overall Monday night, defeating the Huntington Lady Huntsmen 73-18 at Huntington High School, in non-league play.

LC led 18-0 after the first quarter, followed with a halftime lead of 35-6. In the third frame the Lady Mustangs increased their lead to 57-12.

Leading the Lady Mustangs were seniors Lillian Blankenship and Hannah Blankenship with 17 points each.

Hannah Blankenship was 6-of-9 shooting (three 3-pointers), with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Lillian Blankenship was 7-of-10 from the field (two 3-pointers), with one rebound, four assists and a team-high eight steals.

Meredith Fittro, a senior, scored 10 points (two 3-pointers), as did sophomore Laney Lewis. Lewis also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while adding three assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

LC junior Brooke Hertlein also scored 10 points, finishing 5-of-10 from the field with four steals and two blocks.
 
Junior Karen Hilt added five points, four assists and one steal. Sophomore Ashley Tenas  scored two points with two rebounds, one assist and two steals. Fellow sophomore  Emma Setty also scored two points. Lisa Rhonemus had two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

LC was 19-of-50 (38 percent) on two-point baskets and 7-of-21 from beyond the arc (33 percent). Overall, LC shot 37 percent from the field and 63 percent from the free-throw line (12-of-19).

The Lady Mustangs' JV team won 24-8.

LC now stands at 2-0, defeating Hillsboro in their season opener Friday. LC will travel to Fayetteville Thursday, facing their Southern Hills League counterpart.[[In-content Ad]]
