Lady Tigers sweep Hillsboro in 3 games

The McClain Lady Tigers invaded the home of the Hillsboro Lady Indians Wednesday night and took home a South Central Ohio League win in the process, defeating the Lady Indians in three sets for the match by scores of 25-23, 25-12 and 25-21.
Two of the three sets McClain won by a total of six points.
"We had a tough loss in our last match by having breakdowns, but (Wednesday) we communicated better and played overall better as a team," McClain coach Katy Paugh said.
In the first set, the score went to a tied score at 5-5 as Hillsboro had points from Kelsey Dunham and Ashley Sanders, with Sanders tying the game at five with a block at the net. McClain had points by Kelsey Davis and Brittany Mullikin.
Later in the first set, Jenna Perie made the score 9-5 with her serving, including an ace for the ninth point.
Hillsboro's Keri Dobbs gave the Lady Indians their sixth point with a dig, but MHS increased its lead to 12-6 later in the first set.
HHS cut the Lady Tigers' lead to three points by scoring three consecutive points, but an ace by Perie put MHS up 14-9.
The Lady Indians came within two points of tying the first set with points by Dobbs and Dunham.
McClain's Mackenzie Olaker put the Lady Tigers up 21-16, but HHS came back with a point scored by Autumn Hacker.
Later in the first set, Hillsboro's Monique Burns helped bring the Lady Tribe within four points at 24-20 and the first set ended with Hacker scoring an ace for HHS, but MHS won by two points on the next serve by a score of 25-23 as the official said HHS went too far over the net when returning the ball back to MHS.
Set two was all MHS as they won 25-12.
The start of the second game was close at 3-2 with HHS's Ally Tokar scoring a point.
McClain quickly jumped to a 13-4 advantage, including the 13th point coming from a block by Brittany Stith.
Later in the set, MHS led 20-8 and fought off a late rally attempt by HHS for a 25-12 win.
Like the first set, the third set turned into a closely contested duel with each team answering each other point-for-point.
Points by Perie and Olaker put MHS up 4-3 in the early stages.
The score went tied to 10, but MHS increased their lead to 15-10.
HHS fought back with points by Dobbs and Sanders for a 17-16 MHS lead, as they helped cut the MHS lead to one point.
Mullikin put MHS up two points with a block at the net.
Each team then proceeded to hit their own side of the net on numerous occasions to make the score 20-19, and it became tied at 20 when Tokar tied it with a serve.
MHS regained the lead with Davis pushing the ball into an empty spot on the Hillsboro side of the court. The score became 23-20 with two straight points scored by Logan Greene of McClain.
Olaker ended the game with a serve that bounced off a Hillsboro player.
For the match, HHS had 15 kills, and MHS finished with 27.
McClain was led in digs by Green with seven, followed by Mackenzie Garrison with four. Sasha Lawwell had one dig.
Davis led MHS with 14 assists, and Perie had eight kills. Davis finished with seven kills, and Green had five. Olaker tallied four kills and Garrison had two.
"All of our girls did a good job, but we brought Mackenzie (Olaker) up from the JV team, and she did well."
Perie scored a total of 13 points in the match. Davis and Garrison each had nine.
In JV play, HHS won in three sets, winning the final two by scores of 25-19 and 25-14. MHS won the first set at 25-17.
The win puts MHS at 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the SCOL.
MHS is scheduled to face the Washington Lady Blue Lions Thursday at WSHS.
