Lady Mustangs top McClain

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs returned in a big way from winter break on Monday night. In a non-league game with Highland County rival McClain, the Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady Tigers, 49-34 at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

McClain now stands at 6-2 overall, and the Lady Mustangs improve to 4-3 overall on the season.

MHS led after the first quarter, but for the remaining three quarters it was LC who led the way.

LC was led in the battle of the Southern Hills League vs. the South Central Ohio League by Laney Lewis with a game-high 13 points. The sophomore was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line, while adding nine rebounds, eight blocks, two steals and two assists.

Hannah Blankenship, a senior, scored 11 points for LC, followed by Lillian Blankenship with 10 points. Hannah Blankenship had two rebounds and one steal, while Lillian Blankenship tallied six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

LC senior Meredith Fittro scored seven points, with three rebounds, three steals, one blocked shot and one assist.

Brooke Hertlein had six points with two rebounds, one blocked shot and one assist. Karen Hilt scored two points and Emma Setty grabbed one rebound.

LC had 11 turnovers.

For the Lady Tigers, they were led by Jenna Perie and Sammy Rooks with eight points each.

Chrissy Cobb and Kate Crabtree each scored five points, followed by Brittany Mullikin with four points.

Megan Hogle and Kaitlyn Faulconer each scored two points.

MHS will play on Tuesday as they host Zane Trace. LC plays again on Thursday, hosting Manchester.[[In-content Ad]]
