Lady Mustangs start volleyball season at 1-1

HILLSBORO — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs went 1-1 Saturday at the 6th annual Highland County Spike and Dig Volleyball challenge at Hillsboro High School.
This was the first year the event was held at HHS, as the first five were held at the Patriot Center on the campus of Southern State Community College.
In their first match of the season Lynchburg-Clay fell to the McClain Lady Tigers by scores of (25-19), 23-25 and 13-25 as all matches were the best of three in this tournament.
Daisy Christophel led LC with 23 points on serve for the Lady Mustangs against McClain.
Leading LC in assists was Elizabeth Spidel.
Magan Stegbauer led the Lady Mustangs with 16 kills and four blocks.
In the consolation game for third place, LC defeated the Fairfield Lady Lions in three sets at (21-25) 25-21 and 25-18, rallying to take the final two by a combined 10 points.
The points on serve leader for LC against rival FHS was Claire Magie with 16.
Spidel led in assists and Stegbauer had 17 kills and two blocks in the win over the Lady Lions.
Whiteoak did not take part in the tournament this year as in was their turn to sit out the challenge.
