Lady Mustangs control first half, defeat Peebles

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs not only dominated the first half, but they made the game theirs to keep Friday at Lynchburg-Clay High School, defeating their Southern Hills League counterpart Peebles, 4-0.
LC (1-0, 2-1) continued their dominating play they used in a 6-0 win against McClain in their previous game to notch their second straight win, their first in league competition.
All four of the Lady Mustangs' goals came in the first half, as LC out shot the Lady Indians 34-6 in the game.
"We had a very dominant first half," coach Dennis West said. "We moved the ball and as a result got some very good shots."
West wasn't as pleased with the play from his team in the second half.
"Our second half was very poor. We just had little teamwork and drive," West said. "We have to play better against Eastern Brown and Ripley."
Lynchburg-Clay sophomore Taylor Scott scored two of the four LC goals.
Senior keeper Shelbi Halverson had four saves in the win, not allowing a single goal in her last two games at keeper.
The first goal of the game came from sophomore Hannah West at the 27:18 mark of the opening 40 minute half, followed with a goal from Scott with 23:32 remaining.
LC junior Brooke Hertlein made the score 3-0 with a goal at the 21:57 mark of the half.
Scott's second goal came with 8:02 left in the first half with a pass from senior Breian West.
Peebles had 15 saves at goal.
The win lifts LC to 2-1 this season with a league mark of 1-0.
LC will play at Eastern Brown Monday and will host Ripley on Wednesday.
