Ja’Marr Chase named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase today was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the team’s 33-31 win over Pittsburgh in Week 7.

Chase set a Bengals single-game record with 16 receptions for 161 yards and one TD to help lead Cincinnati to a divisional victory on Thursday Night Football. He broke his own team record of 15 receptions, which he registered in Week 5 of the 2023 season at Arizona.

Chase’s 16 catches are the most by any player in an NFL game this season. He now owns the four highest single-game reception totals in Bengals history, and he is the third player in NFL history to record 14 or more catches in at least four games in his career. The Week 7 contest marked his seventh game with at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards, which surpassed Minnesota WR Justin Jefferson for the most such games in league history in a player’s first five career seasons.

Chase eclipsed 6,000 career receiving yards during the third quarter on Thursday night. Playing in his 69th regular-season game, he became the fifth-fastest player in NFL history to reach that mark. His career total improved to 6054 yards, surpassing former WRs Darnay Scott (5,975) and Tyler Boyd (6,000) for seventh place on the Bengals’ all-time receiving yardage list.

Chase gave Cincinnati its first points of the game when he caught an eight-yard TD pass from QB Joe Flacco late in the second quarter. It marked his fifth receiving TD of the season and 51st of his career, the most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2021. On the Bengals’ final offensive possession, Chase opened the drive with two straight catches for 33 yards to help get Cincinnati in position for the game-winning FG.

This is Chase’s fifth career AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. Bengals players have combined for 22 weekly honors (Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams) since the start of the 2021 season, the third-most in the NFL in that span.
