House passes resolution to support Cleveland’s bid to host 2030 Special Olympic USA Games

COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Resolution 101, legislation expressing strong support for Cleveland’s bid to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games, announced State Representative Adam Bird (R-New Richmond).

Cleveland is one of two finalist cities currently under consideration by the Special Olympics Bid Evaluation Committee. Hosting the Games is projected to generate an estimated $70 million in economic impact for the region.

“I am proud to help lead this effort to bring the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games to Cleveland,” said Bird. “Communities and volunteers across Ohio have been giving special Olympic athletes the opportunity to compete for years.”

Held every four years, the Special Olympics USA Games celebrate athletic achievement bringing together athletes with intellectual disabilities from across the country. If selected, Cleveland would host the Games for eight days, featuring a robust schedule of sports competitions and wellness programs for more than 5,500 athletes and their families.

State Representative Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland) is a joint-sponsor of the bill which now heads to the Senate for a vote.
