Hillsboro boys soccer celebrates Senior Night

Again the Hillsboro Indians had to play under wet and muddy conditions Thursday night at Richards Memorial Field, celebrating Senior Night in the process, as both the Tribe and the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles battled to a 0-0 tie in South Central Ohio League play.
“We played well with the conditions we had (Thursday),” Hillsboro coach Wayne Thiel said. “Our passing was good even with all the mud and rain. Both teams stepped up and did a good job.”
Both HHS and the Golden Eagles had chances to take the lead, as the Indians had a few opportunities with the ball in near the Madison-Plains goal, but were unable to net any points.
The Tribe went for the win with under 45 seconds remaining in the second half, but the keeper of the Golden Eagles made a big time save to keep the score tied at 0-0.
This was a game for the keepers, with both the M-P goalie and HHS keeper Corey Walker keeping the game scoreless, by making tough saves in the rain.
“Both keepers did well,” Thiel said. “They both played good games and their (MPHS) keeper made some tough saves at the end of the game.”
This was the final home game for the Indians in ’09. Seniors this year included Tony Thiel, Alex Schelling, Tyler Bick, Jacob Miller, Austin Lowe, Seth Darbyshire, Zach Fleming and Andrew Goolsby.
“Overall our senior class was impressive to me this year,” Thiel said. “They did a good job and hung in there. We had seniors step up and play different positions and that impressed me.”
In SCOL play the Indians stand at 5-4-3, and overall HHS is 5-7-3.
HHS will play again Saturday as they travel to face Little Miami.
