High School Football Preview Week 5: HHS travels to face undefeated Blue Lions

The Hillsboro Indians have been on the road in all but one game this season, and that trend will continue again this week, as they are set to travel to Gardner Park to face the undefeated Washington Blue Lions.

Things, as of late, have been rough for the Hillsboro Indians. They have three straight losses to Gallia Academy, Wilmington and Clinton-Massie. Last week against CM, they were outscored 63-7 against the defending South Central Ohio League champs. CM scored 63 unanswered.

In recent games against the Blue Lions, the Indians last won during the 2005 season. In their last four meetings (2006-09), the Blue Lions have outscored the Tribe 125-53, including a 28-27 defeat of HHS one year ago at Richards Memorial Field.

This season the Blue Lions, who use multiple formations on the offensive side of the ball, have added even more plays and ways to use their talents in their second season under head coach Corey Dye. This is Dye's 10th season in the Washington program.

During the preseason, Dye said he was happy to be returning so many senior players, including an offensive line with experience.

It has paid off in a big way.

This is the first time the Blue Lions have started the season 4-0 since 2001, where they ended the regular season at 10-0.

Leading the Blue Lions is senior running back Ben Parks. This season, Parks has rushed for 518 yards on 85 carries for third best in the SCOL. He trails Jordan Scanlon (CM) with 779 yards on 83 rushes and London's Jake Burns, 528 yards on 85 rushes.

Also standing out for the Blue Lions this year are quarterback Collin Farmer and running back Riley Shaw.  Last week, against Madison-Plains, Shaw led Washington with 133 yards on 10 carries. Parks finished with 98 yards on 16 carries. Passing against MP, Farmer went 8 of 12 for 156 yards.

For the Indians, they have lost their last three games by a combined score of 135-35. Their lone win this year was a one-point victory in week one against Western Brown, 35-34.

Hillsboro and Washington are scheduled to kickoff Friday at Gardner Park at 7:30 p.m.
