Coleman finishes 2nd season at UC

CINCINNATI — Former Hillsboro standout Kendal Coleman recently finished his second year of baseball with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.
Coleman, a 6-0, 188 pound sophomore, played in 36 games during his second season with UC, ending the season with a batting average of .258. Though Coleman, who wears No. 7, missed some games in the early part of the season, he started over half of the Bearcats' games as they finished with an overall record of 29-29 (13-14 in the Big East).
The conference record was good enough to get the Bearcats a No. 7 seed in the Big East Championship tournament. UC played two games in the tourney, falling to UConn (9-6) and Pittsburgh (13-4). The eventual champion of the Big East was St. John's.
In 35 games this season for the Division I Bearcats, Coleman, who bats from the left side, had 120 at-bats, finishing with 31 hits, including five doubles and two triples. Though Coleman had no home runs and just 20 strikeouts, he did tally seven RBIs and 40 total bases for an on-base percentage of .373. The UC sophomore scored 15 runs and had a slugging percentage of .333. He walked 21 times and was hit by a pitch once.
During the season Coleman had five games where he gained at least two hits, the seventh most on the Bearcat squad. Those included games against Dayton, Villanova, Wright State, St. John's and Seton Hall. His best game from the plate was against Wright State on May 5 where he went 3-for-4 with two runs, two walks and two RBIs.
In a batting lineup where he went to the plate in the first eight spots in the order, Coleman was the leadoff hitter twice and when at the leadoff spot, UC went 2-0. He batted once in the No. 2 spot and was the No. 3 hitter nine times. He batted once in the clean up spot.
The longest hit streak for Coleman was six-straight for the sixth longest hitting streak for UC this year. During the season, Coleman was the designated hitter 15 times.
Coleman committed just one error in the field for an overall fielding percentage of .976.
UC was 18-12 in home games and 8-13 on the road. In neutral game sites they finished 3-4.
In his first game of the season, Coleman went 2-for-3 at the plate with one walk against the University of Dayton. At that time, the Bearcats were 11-7.
Last season Coleman, as a freshman, Coleman played in 34 games, starting 21. His batting average a year ago was .256, hitting five doubles and 12 RBIs.
While at HHS, he was a four-year letter winner in baseball and was All-SCOL three times. As a high school senior, he hit .615 and was All-District his junior and senior seasons.[[In-content Ad]]
