Wildcats score 2 runs for win over Manchester

Having a shutout pitching performance by Izayah Clift and scoring two runs in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference game, the Whiteoak Wildcats earned a victory Tuesday evening at Chris Veidt Field by defeating the Manchester Greyhounds, 2-0. 

Whiteoak’s runs came in the bottom of the second and third innings, with the second-inning run being Christian Hite scoring from third base on an infield error by the Greyhounds. 

WHS took a 2-0 lead when Lucas Pollard batted in Abe Flader from third base on a groundout to second for the RBI and run. Flader was hit by a pitch to reach the bases, then stole second and third bases. 

The Wildcats totaled two hits in the game, with Clift finishing 1-for-2 with one hit by pitch and a steal. Jonah Michael was 1-for-3. 

Flader finished the game with one run, a HBP and two steals. Pollard collected the lone RBI in the game, with a walk and one sacrifice. 

Hite scored a run, walked twice and had three steals in the SHAC win. Karson Arey was hit by a pitch and collected a steal. Jude Michael finished with a walk and a steal. Caden Butler walked once for WHS. 

The Wildcats totaled 19 at-bats, two runs, two hits, five walks, three HBP and eight steals. 

Clift was the winning pitcher as he threw all seven innings, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks. He also ended the game with nine strikeouts. 

Hits for the Greyhounds were by Luke Applegate and Kenton Butt. 

WHS improves to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in the SHAC Division II standings. Manchester is now 1-1 in the SHAC and 1-2 overall.
