Whiteoak’s Jacen Applegate tosses no-hitter against Western Latham

Whiteoak’s Jacen Applegate achieved the feat of a no-hitter on Tuesday (April 15), as the Whiteoak Wildcats defeated the visiting Western Latham Indians, 16-1 in five innings.
In the top of the first, Whiteoak’s Jacen Applegate hit the leadoff batter, then on the next at-bat a sacrifice bunt saw Applegate throw it into WHS bullpen, which allowed the leadoff batter to score a run as the Indians had no hits in that span.
From that point on, the game belonged to Applegate and the Wildcats. The first inning saw Applegate strike out two of the final three batters in the inning, as he issued a walk in between the strikeouts.
In the second, Applegate forced two groundouts and ended the inning was a called third strike for his third strikeout of the game. In the top of the third, Applegate struck out the leadoff batter and followed that with a groundsout, a walk and another strikeout, giving him five strikeouts in three innings.
For the top of the fourth, Applegate struck out the first batter he faced, then followed that with a strikeout that saw the batter reach base, but the inning ended with a 5-4-3 double play.
Then, in the fifth and final inning, Applegate had a strikeout on a called third strike, followed by two infield outs to seal the no-hitter. Applegate (2-0) finished the game with five innings pitched, allowing no earned runs on no hits and two walks, with seven strikeouts.
As for the Whiteoak offense, they scored nine runs in the bottom of the first with eight players scoring runs in the inning, and Zander Roades scoring two runs in the inning.
In the bottom of the second, WHS added four more runs, and then WHS ended their scoring with a three-run fourth inning for their 16 total runs.
Roades went 1-for-2 with three runs, a double, three RBI, two walks and four steals.
Jonah Michael finished with two runs, one walk, one steal, one RBI and he was hit by a pitch.
Applegate totaled one run, one SAC and one RBI. Teammate Jacob Kiley was 1-for-2 with two runs, one walk, one steal and one RBI.
Abraham Flader ended his day at 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI.
The Wildcats also had Christian Hite finish 2-for-2 with two runs, a double, two walks, two steals and two RBI.
Izayah Clift was 1-for-1 with two runs, one walk, two steals and one RBI.
The Wildcats also saw Caden Butler end the day at 1-for-1 with three runs, two walks, one steals and two RBI. Keian Moon-Stone forced a walk in the win.
Whiteoak now stands at 3-3 overall this season.
