Whiteoak Lady ’Cats bow out of district semifinal

The 2023-24 season for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats came to a close Thursday night at Wellston High School, falling in their Division IV SE District Semifinal game to the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings, 58-47.

The Division IV postseason game was a close battle in the first half as WHS trailed by just a single point at 12-11 when the first quarter came to a close, and after SVHS led the second frame at 16-13, it was the Lady ’Cats trailing by only four points a 28-24 halftime score. 

Whiteoak played their best quarter in the third, tying the score with an 11-6 win of the third frame, but the fourth quarter got away from WHS as they allowed 24 points and scored 12 points of their own, resulting in the 11-point loss. 

Jaylie Parr — who earned her 1,000th career point this season —  finished with 12 points to lead Whiteoak, making three two-point baskets and two 3-pointers.

Kylee Hamm followed with 11 points off four two-point buckets and a 3-of-4 performance from the free-throw line. 

The rest of the WHS scoring was: Addy Hauke (eight), Lydia Carr (six), Kelsey Monteith (three), Madison Thompson (three), Bri Hill (two) and Addison Roberts (two) . 

WHS totaled six 3-pointers in the loss, with two each by Parr and Hauke and one each by Thompson and Monteith. From the free-throw line, the Lady ‘Cats were 3-of-5. 

For the Lady Vikings, they were led in scoring by Desiree Simpson with 21 points, and also in double figures were Kaitlin Maynard with 12 points and Jordan Ellison with 11 points. Also for SVHS, scoring included: Kayley Maynard (six), Hailee Beckett (four) and Lydia Saunders (four). 

SVHS was 6-of-14 from the free-throw line. 

Seniors for Whiteoak are: Keira Campbell, Lydia Carr, Bri Hill, Molly McMullen, Kelsey Monteith, Jaylie Parr and Madison Thompson. 

WHS ends the season at 14-10 overall, with a 1-1 record in the tournament.
