Fayetteville’s strong start leads to Whiteoak loss

Thursday (Dec. 11), the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost a road Southern Hills Athletic Conference game to the host Fayetteville Lady Rockets, 72-35.

In the conference game played at Fayetteville High School, it was the hosts who got off to a strong start with a 26-7 first quarter, then followed that with a 15-8 second frame for a halftime lead of 41-15 in favor of Fayetteville. 

The third frame saw Fayetteville outscore Whiteoak 19-5 in the third, and in the fourth it was Whiteoak with 15 points and Fayetteville with 12 points. 

Whiteoak was led by Kyra Boyd with 22 points, making four 3-pointers, three two-point baskets and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Boyd also collected a double-double with 11 rebounds (four offensive), three assists and one block. 

Peyton Gobin totaled four points (one 3-pointer, 1-of-2 from the free-throw line), along with four rebounds and one assist. 

Miley Walker finished with three points with a 3-pointer, plus three rebounds and one assist. Ella Howard totaled three points (a 3-pointer), three rebounds and one steal. Dinah Ames totaled three points (one 3-pointer), two rebounds and one block. 

Chanel Captain totaled two rebounds, one assist and one block. Aveah Captain finished with one assist. 

Whiteoak’s team totals included three two-point baskets, eight 3-pointers, and they were 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. They also had 25 rebounds (13 offensive), seven assists, one steal and three blocks, while also having 19 turnovers. 

Fayetteville was led by Lilly Carlier with 21 points (three 3-pointers, six two-point baskets). Fayetteville also saw Christina Murphy score 16 points, Cara Rummel with 13 points and Aubrey Barber with 12 points. Other final scoring totals for FHS included Lindi Carlier (3), Scarlett Crawford (2), Sadie Moore (3) and Autumn Waddell (2). 

Fayetteville’s totals were 21 two-point baskets, eight 3-pointers, 6-of-8 from the free-throw line, plus they had 22 rebounds (seven offensive), 26 assists, 16 steals and five blocks, plus they had five turnovers. 

WHS now stands at 1-1 in the SHAC Division II standings and 2-1 overall. Fayetteville improves to 3-0 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 4-0 overall.
