Mustangs win regular-season finale; defeat Blanchester by 24 points

Friday night the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs won their regular-season finale by defeating the visiting Blanchester Wildcats, 73-49.
Lynchburg-Clay led by one point at the end of the first quarter at 12-11, and after outscoring the Wildcats 19-13 in the second, it was LCHS leading at halftime at 31-24.
The Mustangs galloped away from the Wildcats in the third frame with a stampede of sorts, as they outscored BHS 20-9 in the frame for a lead of 51-33.
LCHS had another 20-point frame in the fourth, scoring 22 points, and Blanchester scored 16 points in the final frame.
Trevor Niehaus was LC’s leading scorer with 19 points, finishing the game with six two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Niehaus also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Braedon West finished with 12 points by making three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and he was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. West also had three rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Denver Clinton totaled 11 points by making four two-pointers, and he was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Clinton had a double-double with 10 rebounds, one assist and five steals.
The Mustangs also had nine points from Elam Faust with one two-point basket, two 3-pointer, and one free throw, plus he had seven rebounds, one assist and four steals.
Asher Faust added seven points (three two-point baskets, one free throw), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Also in the scoring column for the Mustangs was Cody Bell with six points (two two-pointers, two free throws), five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Jay Cordrey ended the game with five points (one two-pointer, one 3-pointer) and one rebound.
Quinn Wells for LCHS scored four points with two two-pointers, plus he collected one assist.
Caden Faust finished with one assist and one steal.
Team totals for LCHS were 22 two-pointers, six 3-pointers, and they were 11-of-20 from the free-throw line. LCHS also had 40 rebounds, 13 assists and 15 steals.
Blanchester was led in scoring by Ayden Basham with 20 points and Kaden Cromer with 18 points.
The loss sends Blanchester to an overall record of 2-20 this season.
The win improves Lynchburg-Clay to 9-13 overall.
Next for the Mustangs is their Division VI SE District Quarterfinal game Friday, Feb. 21 at Portsmouth West High School against the PWHS Senators (11-11) at 7 p.m.
