Mustangs gain win over North Adams; fall to A-C and Versailles

The past three games for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs baseball teams have seen them defeat the North Adams Green Devils in Southern Hills Athletic Conference competition and fall in non-conference games to Amanda-Clearcreek and Versailles. 

On Wednesday, April 8, the Mustangs lost to the Aces of Amanda-Clearcreek by a 5-2 score at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe. 

The Aces broke away from the Mustangs with a four-run bottom of the first inning, then added their fifth run in the bottom of the third. LCHS scored one run in the top of the fourth and one in the fifth inning. 

For the game, LCHS totaled seven hits and committed four errors. ACC had eight hits and three errors. 

LCHS had two players with two hits each as Quin Wells was 2-for-4 with three steals, while teammate Caden Boone was 2-for-3 with one RBI. 

Kristian Beachy finished 1-for-3 with one run and a walk. Aiden Bene was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run. Aric Slack finished 1-for-2 with one walk. Max Baker walked once and was hit by a pitch. Harley Lewis collected a walk, and Tanner Roberts finished with a walk.

Roberts pitched five innings in the loss with one earned run allowed with six strikeouts. Tristin Puckett pitched one inning where he allowed no runs, no walks and had one strikeout.

In a SHAC game on Thursday, April 9 the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs won in six innings against the host North Adams Green Devils by a 17-1 score. 

LCHS had 16 hits in the win with no errors, and their opponent was held to two hits and they committed eight errors. 

Quin Wells finished the game at 4-for-5 with three runs, two steals and two RBI. Kristian Beachy was 3-for-5 with one run, three steals and three RBI. 

Aric Slack was 2-for-4 with two runs, a steal and five RBI. Tanner Roberts finished 2-for-3 with two runs. Harley Lewis was 2-for-3 with two runs, a hit by pitch, a steal and one RBI. 

Aiden Bene finished 1-for-4 with a run and a steal. Tristin Puckett was 1-for-1 with one run, a steal and a double. Trevor Niehaus went 1-for-3 with three runs, one HBP, a steal and one RBI. 

Max Baker finished the game with one run. Luke Davis also scored a run and had a walk for the Mustangs. 

Beachy pitched five innings where he allowed one earned run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Traveling to Wright State University for a non-conference game against the Versailles Tigers, Lynchburg-Clay fell by a 16-5 score in five innings. 

LCHS was the away team in the game as they scored three runs in the top of the second and two runs in the fifth. VHS scored three runs in the bottom of the first and from there scored six runs in the second, five runs in the third and two runs in the fourth. 

The Mustangs finished the game with six hits and four errors, and Versailles had 13 hits and no errors. 

Quin Wells was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a walk with one of his hits being a double. Aric Slack finished 1-for-2 with one run, one RBI and a walk. Tanner Roberts was 1-for-2 with a run and a walk. Harley Lewis went 1-for-3 with a double, one run and two RBI. 

Kristian Beachy forced one walk, Luke Davis also forced a walk, and Trevor Niehaus scored two runs, had one steal and walked twice. Aric Slack and Caden Boone were each hit by a pitch. 

Aiden Bene, Max Baker and Tristin Puckett all pitched for the Mustangs with Baker and Puckett each having two strikeouts. 

The Mustangs now stand at 7-2 overall this season.
