Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs boys golf advances to state tournament

Wednesday, Oct. 1, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs made school history by becoming the first boys golf team to become state qualifiers for their school, as they placed second overall in the 2025 Southeast District Golf Tournament held at the Crown Hill Golf Club. 

The Mustangs — who were the Southern Hills Athletic Conference champions and fifth place at sectionals — had the match of their season on Wednesday, placing second overall with a team score of 324, only two strokes away from tying the eventual district champion Westfall, who carded a team score of 322. 

In third place was Ironton at 327, fourth place went to Circleville at 300 and Fairfield Union placed fifth overall at 340. 

The rest of the Top 10 in team scores were Gallia Academy (343), Fairland (346), West Union (348), Meigs (364) and Dawson-Bryant (381). 

Lynchburg-Clay’s Nolan Wilkin was tied for district runner-up. as the sophomore was second with a score of 76. His rounds consisted of scores of 38 and 38. 

In eighth place was Jackson West, with the sophomore finishing with a final score of 79 for a Top 10 district finish. 

LC’s Aiden Bene, a junior, placed tied for 18th with a score of 84, as his rounds were 44 and 40. Tied for 21st was sophomore Kristian Beachy with a score of 85, as his round numbers were 41 and 44. Austin Manning was tied for 50th overall at 96, with the junior carding round scores of 46 and 50. 

The Mustangs will begin play at state Monday, Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. at NCR Country Club - South in Kettering.
