LC volleyball splits games against Western Latham, Peebles
The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs have taken the court with two volleyball games this week, defeating the Peebles Indians and falling to the Western Latham Indians.
The two games on Monday (Aug. 19) and Tuesday (Aug. 20) give LCHS a 2-2 record overall this season.
On Monday, the Lady Mustangs fell in three consecutive sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-21 against Western Latham.
Lynchburg-Clay totaled 17 kills in the game, as sophomore Kylie O’Connor totaled eight kills, followed by sophomore Addy Carraher with four, sophomore Halle Greene with four and junior Mattie Magee with one.
LCHS also collected seven aces in the non-conference game with Carraher totaling three, junior Joslyn Rockey with two, and with one each were junior Ava McLaughlin and junior Avery Shope.
Magee, Greene and O’Connor each collected a block, while the digs leader for LCHS was Rockey with 24. Others with digs were Shope with 13, Carraher with 10, and the rest of the digs were from Greene (eight), McLaughlin (eight), senior Morgan Baker (three), Magee (three), senior Ava Doughman (two), Melany Stephenson (one) and O’Connor (one).
The Lady Mustangs totaled 17 assists as a team, led by McLaughlin with six, Carraher (four), O’Connor (three), and with two each were Rockey and Shope.
Rockey led LCHS with 29 service receptions, while Shope had 11. Others with service receptions were Doughman (five), Carraher (four), Magee (four), Greene (two) and Stephenson (one).
Tuesday (Aug. 20), the Lady Mustangs defeated Peebles in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game in four sets, winning sets two through four by scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-20. PHS won set one at 25-20.
Against Peebles, the Lady Mustangs totaled 41 kills, as they were led by O’Connor with 14 and Greene with 10.
Other kills collected by LCHS included Carraher (six), Magee (five), Rockey (three), Shope (two) and McLaughlin (one).
The aces for LCHS were scored by McLaughlin and Rockey with four each to lead the way. O’Connor finished with three aces, sophomore Jules Vesey had two aces, Carraher totaled two aces and Doughman had one ace.
The Lady Mustangs had two total blocks in the SHAC win, both from Magee.
There were 62 digs collected by Lynchburg-Clay with Rockey totaling 16 and Shope with 10. McLaughlin had seven digs, and Stephenson finished with four. Carraher also had seven digs, and Doughman ended the match with six digs. Greene totaled five digs in the win, while Vesey had four digs, Baker ended the match with two digs and O’Connor had one dig.
Assists for LCHS were credited to McLaughlin with 18 and Carraher with 16. O’Connor totaled three assists, and the remainder of the assists were made by Rockey (two) and Magee (two).
LCHS was led in service receptions by Rockey with 24, followed by Shope with 13. The remainder of the service receptions went to Doughman (five), Greene (four), Stephenson (three), Carraher (two) and Magee (one).
LCHS is scheduled to play another SHAC game on Thursday, Aug. 22 on the road at North Adams with JV starting at 5:30 p.m.
