LC volleyball: Rockey sets digs milestone; team wins 2 of last 3 matches 

Lynchburg-Clay senior Joslyn Rockey earned her 1,000th career dig on Friday, Aug. 22, as the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs won on the road in three sets over Southern Hills Athletic Conference rival, the Ripley Lady Blue Jays in three straight sets. 

LCHS won the match with set wins of 25-19, 25-14 and 26-24. 

Rockey in the win finished with 21 digs as those pushed her over the 1,000-career dig mark. 

Others with digs in the win were Avery Shope (12), Ava McLaughlin (five), Melany Stephenson (nine), Mattie Magee (four), Halle Greene (two), Kylie O’Connor (one) and Jules Vesey (eight). 

The kills leader in the SHAC win was Magee with nine, and next were Greene with eight and O’Connor with six. Also with kills were Stephenson (three) and Shope (three).

LCHS totaled 17 aces against Ripley where Rockey finished with seven, and Stephenson had four. Shope and Vesey each finished with two aces, and with one ace each were Magee and O’Connor. 

O’Connor also had three blocks and Magee also recorded a block. The assists leader for the Lady Mustangs was McLaughlin with 27 and Vesey with one. 

Lynchburg-Clay totaled 43 service receptions as Rockey had 19, Shope totaled 10, Vesey finished with eight, and Stephenson had six. 

On Thursday, Aug. 21 the Lady Mustangs lost a five-set non-conference contest to Huntington at LCHS. 

LCHS won set one at 25-21, but lost the second set at 25-21. Set three went to the Lady Mustangs at 25-12, but the fourth set was Huntington as the winner at 25-20. In the fifth set, the visitors won with a score of 15-11. 

Lynchburg-Clay had 30 kills in the loss where O’Connor led with nine and Magee had eight. Greene totaled six kills, while the rest were McLaughlin (one), Stephenson (three) and Shope (three). 

The aces leader for LCHS was Stephenson as she collected eight of the 15 aces by the home team. Also with aces were McLaughlin (one), Rockey (three), Shope (two) and Vesey (one). 

The blocks leader for Lynchburg-Clay was Magee with three, while O’Connor finished with two and Stephenson had one. 

LC had 72 digs as a team, and Rockey was the leader with 20, while McLaughlin finished with 16 and Shope totaled 11. Others recording digs were Stephenson (nine), Magee (one), Greene (seven), O’Connor (three) and Vesey (five). 

The assists leader against Huntington was McLaughlin with 28, and Shope had one. Of the 69 service receptions by LCHS, Rockey finished with 22, Vesey had 18 and Stephenson totaled 15. Also with service receptions were McLaughlin (one), Shope (six), Greene (one) and O’Connor (six). 

Monday, Aug 25 saw the Lady Mustangs face the East Clinton Lady Astros where it was a three-set sweep by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-15. 

The match included 18 kills, 10 aces, one block, 36 digs, 28 assists and 26 service receptions by Lynchburg-Clay. 

Kills were as follows for LCHS: Stephen (five), Rockey (one), Magee (eight), Shope (four), Greene (five), and with the team lead was O’Connor with nine. 

Aces went to Stephenson, Rockey and Shope with three each and O’Connor had one. 

The lone block for LCHS was by Magee, while in digs it was Rockey with 24, followed by McLaughlin (seven), Stephenson (seven), Magee (two), Shope (three), Greene (six), O’Connor (one) and Vesey (five). 

McLaughlin totaled 27 assists, and with two each were Greene and O’Connor. Having one assist each were Rockey and Magee. 

The service receptions leader was Rockey with 18, while the rest went to McLaughlin (one), Stephenson (four), Shope (four), O’Connor (one) and Vesey (eight). 

LCHS now stands at 4-2 overall. 

Next for the Lady Mustangs is a SHAC game on Thursday, Aug. 28 at LCHS with a start of around 6:30.
