LC Mustangs pitch no-hitter in shutout win at East Clinton
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs had a trio of pitchers toss a no-hitter on Wednesday evening on the road, as the Mustangs defeated the host East Clinton Astros, 10-0.
In the win, LCHS (1-1) had the no-hitter come from Braedon West, Christian Flowers and Trevor Niehaus, as the three pitchers went all seven innings combined.
West finished the game with one inning on the mound, striking out one batter as he threw a total of 20 pitches, 12 for strikes. Flowers — the winning pitcher — threw three innings, as he struck out three and hit three batters, throwing a total of 62 pitches, 33 for strikes. Niehaus also threw three innings, totaling four strikeouts on 42 total pitches, 25 for strikes.
In all, the trio of pitchers threw 124 pitches for eight strikeouts, and they walked a combined three batters as they allowed no runs or hits.
Offensively, the Mustangs not only scored 10 runs in seven innings, but they totaled eight hits. Niehaus was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Having one hit each were Josiah Burns (two runs, one HBP), West (one run, one RBI, one walk, one HBP and a steal), Flowers (one run, double), Isaac Eyre (one run), Max Baker (one run, double) and Cody Bell (two runs, one RBI, one walk, one steal).
Also for the Mustangs, Cole Wells totaled two RBI and a walk, Austin Bell collected one RBI, Asher Faust scored a run and was hit by a pitch and Jay Cordrey scored one run and had a steal.
The win moves LCHS to 1-1 overall. They were scheduled to play at again on Thursday, March 28 at home against the Fairfield Lions in a SHAC showdown.
