Lady Mustangs score 12 runs in win over West Union

DODSONVILLE — Two home runs by the first-place Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs kept the atop of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division I standings on Tuesday evening as they defeated the West Union Lady Dragons 12-0 in five innings at LCHS. 

The two home runs by LCHS were off the bats of Noel Barnhill and Sadie Kuipers, with Barnhill’s homer being a three-run home run in the first inning over the centerfield fence. Kuipers’ home run came in the third inning, a solo shot also over the centerfield fence. 

Lynchburg-Clay was the “away team” on their home field, as the game was moved to Lynchburg-Clay due to field conditions at West Union. 

The Lady Mustangs scored six runs in the top of the first, followed by one run in the top of the second, then another run crossed the plate in the third inning. LCHS added two runs in the fourth and two final runs in the fifth for their 12-run run-rule win in five innings. 

LCHS ended the game with 16 hits as seven batters tallied the hits in the win, with one four-hit game and two three-hit games. There were also two two-hit games, giving Lynchburg-Clay five players with a multi-hit game. 

Barnhill was a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and three RBI, as two of her hits went for extra bases, including the aforementioned home run and a double. 

Audrey Barry went 3-for-4 with one run, a double and one RBI. The Lady Mustangs also had a three-hit game from Sophia Michael who was 3-for-4 with two runs. 

Reese Ruble went 2-for-4 as both hits were doubles. She also added one run, two RBI and a steal. 

Kuipers was also 2-for-3, as she had the aforementioned home run, as that led to an RBI and a run scored. 

Avery Blankenship was 1-for-2, and Jazmine Brown went 1-for-3 with a steal. Kami Collins scored a run for LCHS, Aubrey Roberts scored two runs and forced a walk. The Lady Mustangs also had a steal from Baylee McClain. 

Barnhill was the winning pitcher, pitching all five innings on a total of 60 pitches. She allowed no runs on two hits and no walks with 12 strikeouts. 

LCHS now stands at 9-1 overall and 14-3 overall.
