Lady Mustangs earn win over CNE; fall to West Union

In two games played on Thursday (Dec. 18) and Saturday (Dec. 20), the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs went 1-1 in that span, as they defeated the Clermont Northeastern Lady Rockets and lost to the West Union Lady Dragons in a conference game. 

For the loss to West Union in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action on Thursday, Dec. 18, the Lady Mustangs fell by a 65-40 score. 

West Union got off to a strong start with a 12-5 lead after the first frame, and then the Lady Dragons — on their home court — outscored LCHS 23-13 in the second quarter for a halftime lead of 35-18. 

LCHS struggled in the third frame as they allowed 25 points to the Lady Dragons, while scoring eight points of their own for a 60-26 score after three frames. In the fourth quarter, LCHS outscored West Union 14-5. 

Madison McMullen led Lynchburg-Clay with 11 points in the SHAC loss, totaling three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and she went 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

Addy Carraher was next in scoring for the Lady Mustangs with 10 points, ending the contest with one two-point basket, two 3-pointers and she finished 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Savannah Bell totaled nine points, with those coming off one two-point field goal, two 3-pointers, and she was 1-of-2 in her free-throw attempts. Lily Ferguson ended the game with eight points off the two-point buckets, and she ended the game 2-of-6 from the free-throw line. Ava McLaughlin rounded out the LCHS scoring with two points off a made basket. 

Team totals for LCHS included nine two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and they were 7-of-15 from the free-throw line. 

West Union was led in the scoring column by Annabelle McIntosh with 15 points, followed by Violet Randolph with 13 points, and Madison Stout totaled 11 points, as Stout had a double-double with 11 rebounds.  

Other scoring for West Union included Kaydence Cook (8), Jocelyn Hall (6), Nina McCann (6), Madison White (4) and Shelbi Weakley (2). 

Team totals for WUHS were 24 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers (Randolph 3, McIntosh 1), and they were 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. West Union totaled 48 rebounds (26 offensive), 18 assists, 10 steals and five blocks.

On Saturday, Dec. 20, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs earned a non-conference win over the Clermont Northeastern Lady Rockets, 41-29 at CNE High School. 

LCHS led 18-9 after the first quarter, and the Lady Rockets won the second frame at 12-5 for a halftime score of 23-21 in favor of Lynchburg-Clay. 

In the third quarter, the Lady Mustangs won the frame at 8-3, and in the fourth quarter LCHS outscored CNE, 10-5 for the 11-point win. 

CNE was led by Jenna Brown with 13 points and Julia Best with 11 points. The Lady Rockets also had three points from Bella Wilson and Anabelle King with two points. 

Madison McMullen led the Lady Mustangs with 12 points, making five two-point buckets and she was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

Joslyn Rockey finished with 10 points as she made two two-point baskets and she sank two 3-pointers. 

Savannah Bell finished with seven points (two two-point baskets, 3-of-5 FT-line), and totaling six points each were Ava McLaughlin (three two-point baskets), and Addy Carraher (one two-point basket, one 3-pointer, 1-of-4 FT-line). 

LCHS totaled 13 two-point buckets, three 3-pointers, and they were 6-of-16 from the free-throw line. 

The two games leave LCHS with an overall record of 2-7 this season.
