Lady Mustangs drop games to Ripley, Eastern and Southeastern; defeat Blanchester

On Thursday, Jan. 8 the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs fell in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game to the host Ripley Lady Blue Jays, 58-47 at Ripley High School.
LCHS trailed 15-13 after the first frame, and after LCHS won the second quarter at 15-10, it was the Lady Mustangs leading at halftime by a 28-25 score.
Ripley won the third frame at 17-12, and they also gained the upper hand in the fourth quarter at 16-7 for the Lady Blue Jays’ 11-point win over Lynchburg-Clay.
The Lady Mustangs were led in scoring by Lily Ferguson with 12 points, as she made five two-pointers and she was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. She also had one rebound, three assists and three steals.
Madison McMullen totaled 10 points off five two-point baskets, plus she collected seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks.
Ava McLaughlin ended the game with eight points (four two-pointers), three assists and one steal. Teammate Joslyn Rockey also had eight points off four baskets, plus she added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Savannah Bell finished with six points (three two-pointers), two rebounds and two assists. Addy Carraher ended the game with three points (a 3-pointer), plus she collected four rebounds and had one assist.
Team totals for LCHS were 21 two-pointers, one 3-pointer and they were 2-of-8 from the free-throw line. They also had 21 rebounds (nine offensive), 17 assists, nine steals and two blocks.
Ripley was led by Raquel Hackney with 23 points and Brooklyn Manning had 18 points. Team totals for RHS were 13 two-point baskets, eight 3-pointers, and they were 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. RHS also had 33 rebounds (19 offensive), 16 assists, 11 steals and three blocks.

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs went on the road for a game on Thursday, Jan. 15, where they faced the host Eastern Lady Warriors and fell by a 53-42 score in SHAC action.
Eastern held a 13-6 lead after the first quarter, and after the Lady Warriors won the second at 9-7, the host Lady Warriors went into the halftime break leading 22-13.
The second half saw EHS win the third at 19-12, and the fourth frame was won by the Lady Mustangs at 17-12.
LCHS was led in the scoring column by Addy Carraher with 16 points, as she made four 3-pointers, one two-point basket and she finished 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. She also added two rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Lynchburg-Clay also had eight points from Lily Ferguson with three baskets, and she was 2-of-5 from the free-throw line, while also having two assists and three steals.
Joslyn Rockey totaled seven points (one 3-pointer, two two-pointers) with four rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block. Teammate Madison McMullen finished with six points (two two-pointers, 2-of-3 FT-line) along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Finishing with three points was Ava McLaughlin as she connected with a 3-pointer. Savannah Bell totaled two points with a basket, along with seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Team totals for LCHS were nine two-pointers, five 3-pointers and they were 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. They also collected 17 rebounds, 11 assists, 11 steals and one block.
Eastern’s leaders were Sophia Uhl (14 points, eight rebounds), Alyssa Johnson (11 points, six rebounds) and Alyssa Fisher (10 points, four rebounds).
EHS totaled 19 two-pointers, three 3-pointers and were 6-of-14 from the free-throw line. They also ended the game with 39 rebounds, 16 assists, eight steals and a block.

Lynchburg-Clay earned a non-conference win on Saturday, Jan. 17 as they defeated the host Blanchester Lady Wildcats by a 58-36 score at Blanchester High School.
LCHS led 11-8 when the first frame ended and they added another 11 points in the second quarter, while Blanchester scored seven points for a 22-15 score and halftime lead of seven points.
In the second half, LCHS added 18 points in both the third and fourth quarters, while BHS scored six points in the third and 15 in the fourth frame.
In LC’s 22-point win they had four players reach double figures as Lily Ferguson led with 17 points off six two-pointers and a 5-of-6 day from the free-throw line. She also added three rebounds, two assists and six steals to her final totals.
Addy Carraher totaled 11 points in the win with three 3-pointers, one two-point basket, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
LC had 10 points each from Madison McMullen and Savannah Bell. McMullen ended the game with three two-point buckets, nine rebounds (four offensive), three assists and one steal. Bell had five two-point baskets and added five rebounds, three assists and four steals to her final totals.
Ava McLaughlin had six points in the win with three made two-point field goals, plus two rebounds and three assists. Joslyn Rockey had four points (one two-pointer, 2-of-2 FT-line), with five rebounds, six assists and four steals. Jocelyn Brown finished with one rebound and one block.
For the game, the Lady Mustangs had 19 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they were 11-of-14 from the free-throw line. They also ended the game with 27 rebounds (10 offensive), 19 assists, 17 steals and one block.

Monday (Jan. 19) the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were back on their home court to face the visiting Southeastern Lady Panthers, where LCHS fell in overtime by a 56-46 score in the non-conference game.
LCHS gained a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, then were outscored by SEHS 12-8 in the second, but the Lady Mustangs still held a halftime lead of 25-22.
Lynchburg-Clay led 36-34 after three quarters, though the Lady Panthers won the frame at 12-11. SEHS also won the fourth frame at 6-4, but it was LCHS forcing overtime with two free throws in the final seconds by Lily Ferguson for a 40-40 score after the fourth frame was complete.
In overtime, Southeastern pulled away by outscoring the Lady Mustangs 16-6 in the 4:00 OT timeframe for a 10-point win over LCHS.
LCHS was led in the scoring column by Ferguson with 15 points as she made three 3-pointers, one two-point basket and four free throws.
Addy Carraher totaled 12 points off four 3-pointers for the Lady Mustangs. Madison McMullen finished with seven points (two 3-pointers, one made free throw), and next was Joslyn Rockey with five points as she made a 3-pointer and two-point basket.
Savannah Bell finished with four points off two two-point field goals, and Ava McLaughlin sank one 3-pointer for three points.
As a team, LCHS totaled seven two-point baskets, nine 3-pointers and they made five free throws.
LCHS now stands at 5-10 overall, and they are 3-6 in the SHAC Division I standings.
Next for the Lady Mustangs is a SHAC game at home against the North Adams Lady Green Devils (7-2, 9-3) Thursday, Jan. 22 at LCHS.
