Bethel-Tate gains win over Lynchburg-Clay

Hosting the Bethel-Tate Lady Tigers on Wednesday, Feb. 4, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were defeated by Bethel-Tate, 67-45 at Lynchburg-Clay High School. 

The non-conference showdown saw the Lady Mustangs lead 12-9 after the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers won the second frame at 23-14 for a 32-26 score at halftime with the Lady Tigers leading. 

BTHS outscored Lynchburg-Clay 21-9 in the third frame for a 53-35 score after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Bethel-Tate led the frame at 14-10 for the 22-point Bethel-Tate win. 

Lynchburg-Clay had three players reach double figures with Lily Ferguson leading the way with 13 points as she made four two-point baskets, and she was 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. She also finished the game with one rebound, one assist and one steal. 

Addy Carraher ended the game with 11 points, making two 3-pointers, two two-pointers, and she was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line. Carraher also collected six rebounds and one steal. 

Madison McMullen totaled 10 points, with two two-point baskets, and she went 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. She also collected a double-double with 12 rebounds (six offensive), two assists, two steals and one block. 

Ava McLaughlin totaled six points off three two-pointers, plus she added three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Savannah Bell ended the game with five points as she made a 3-pointer and a two-point basket, and she totaled five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block. Lizzie Hall finished the game with one rebound and one assist. 

For the game, the Lady Mustangs finished with 12 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they finished 12-of-19 from the free-throw line. LCHS also collected 28 rebounds (14 offensive), nine assists, eight steals and two blocks. 

The loss moves LCHS to an overall record of 7-13 (5-7 SHAC). 

LCHS is scheduled to play again Thursday, Feb. 12 at home against the Ripley Lady Blue Jays (3-9, 8-12).
