UPDATED: Reds earn Opening Day win; local high school bands in pregame parade

Nick Martini belted two home runs and Cincinnati starter Frankie Montas pitched six scoreless innings to lead the Reds to an 8-2 Opening Day win over Washington Thursday before a sellout crowd of 44,030 at Great American Ball Park.
Prior to the season-opener, fans enjoyed the annual Findlay Market Parade – first held in 1920 – with a huge celebration down Race Street, just north of the stadium, as former Reds and other local figures welcomed the start of the 2024 season.
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs matching band and the Whiteoak High School marching band participated in the pre-game parade.
The Reds/Nationals series continues at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, March 30.

The Lynchburg-Clay Marching Mustangs, led by Director Paul McCalla and Guard Instructor Brittney Waits, were in the 2024 Findlay Market Opening Day Parade for the second straight year.
"Every band member in the parade today put in a lot of work to prepare, and had a great morning exploring Findlay Market before step-off. These band members are awesome. They help each other, and they encourage each other constantly. In band, we cannot be successful without everyone putting forward their best at all times. These students do just that, always representing their community and school positively," said Mr. McCalla.
