HILLSBORO — Needing to get back on the winning track after some tough losses, the Hillsboro Lady Indians did just that on Tuesday evening, as they hosted and defeated the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers 3-0 for a Frontier Athletic Conference victory.

The match included two goals from senior Kobie Miles of Hillsboro, as she scored a goal in each half, including the first goal with 18:51 left on the clock for a 1-0 lead. Miles’ goal — on which she beat the defense and went straight to the goal — was assisted by an initial pass from sophomore Piper Wilkin.

This season Miles is averaging nearly two goals a game, leading the Lady Indians with 23 goals.

The Lady Indians took a 2-0 lead with 25 seconds left in the first half as sophomore Ella Jordan made it a two-goal lead with a shot near the net with the assist by junior Arianna Evans. Jordan now has nine goals this season, while Evans leads Hillsboro with nine assists this season.

In the second half, Hillsboro scored early with their third goal of the FAC match off a shot from Miles with the assist by sophomore Grace Palmer with 38:03 left in the match.

Hillsboro's Phoebe Holland was at goal for the shutout, finishing with one save. Thus far this season, Holland has collected 59 saves.

“We’ve been fighting some injuries and other things, so it was great to get back on the winning side, seeing the girls pass the ball, connecting passes and playing better tonight than they have been,” HHS head coach Amanda Miller said. “On defense, Mary (Dietrick) is always back there and always makes great plays, and Phoebe had a great save at the end to keep the shutout when she was one-on-one, and she came up big with that save.”

The win improves the Lady Indians to an overall record of 6-6 with an FAC record of 4-3.

“We really wanted to get in the Lynchburg-Clay game on Monday (it was canceled due to thunderstorms), but it was good to get this game under our belt, to get the girls back excited and back in the groove of winning, and back on track,” Miller said.

Next for HHS is an FAC match Thursday, Sept. 25 on the road against the Washington Lady Blue Lions (0-12-1) in WCH at 6:30 p.m.
