HILLSBORO — Facing a strong team in southern Ohio, the Hillsboro Lady Indians were unable to keep pace with Emma Pistole and the North Adams Lady Green Devils as they were defeated by a 63-47 score in their non-conference contest Wednesday evening.

Pistole, a NAHS senior, had a season-high with 33 points for the Lady Green Devils, ending the game with 14 two-point baskets, and she was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Pistole scored 14 of her points in the third frame with six baskets and two free throws and added nine points in the fourth quarter. She also had eight points in the first frame and two points in the second quarter.

As for the Lady Indians (13-8), they held the lead once in the first quarter, and their leading scorer was junior Tylee Davis with 24 points, finishing with seven two-pointers and she was 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

The most competitive quarter played with the opening eight minutes as the first quarter saw North Adams end the frame with an 18-13 lead, though the Lady Indians led once with 2:35 left on the clock when Davis stole the ball and went to the hoop for a 13-12 lead.

From there, the Lady Green Devils scored the final six points of the first frame for the five-point lead at 18-13. At one point in the first, North Adams led 9-3 with 5:11 left in the quarter following points to start the game by Elizabeth Raines, Tenzlee Burns and Pistole.

HHS trailed by eight points when halftime arrived at 30-22.

That frame HHS had two points from Kobie Miles to start the quarter, but a three-point play from North Adams’ Sophia Barlow lifted the Lady Green Devils’ lead to six points. After a falling off-balanced basket by Davis, NAHS added three more points to their total for a seven-point lead.

Hillsboro’s Annia Young came back with a two-point basket, only to see North Adams score five straight points with a 3-pointer by Raines and a bucket from Ava Pistole for a nine-point advantage. HHS made three more free throws in the quarter, and North Adams scored one last basket in the frame, eventually leaving the Lady Green Devils in front with an eight-point lead after two quarters.

North Adams came out strong in the third with seven consecutive points in less than two minutes off a 3-pointer from Burns and four points off two baskets by Emma Pistole, as North Adams led by 15 points.

HHS kept at it with a bucket made by Ella Jordan, and that was followed with two points scored by Young. The deficit for the rest of the third was no lower than nine points for the Lady Indians, as they trailed 47-33 after three quarters.

North Adams won the fourth frame at 16-14, as their lead never was less than 12 points, and it was as high as 16 points on six occasions, as that was their final winning margin.

HHS also had final scoring totals from Jordan (6), Miles (9), Kylee-Ann Scruggs (2) and Young (6),

Other final scoring totals for North Adams included: Barlow (5), Burns (15), Ava Pistole (3) and Raines (7).

Hillsboro is now 13-8 overall (8-1 FAC), while North Adams improves to 15-4 overall (10-1 SHAC Div. I).

HHS has lost three of their past five games (all non-conference), including their past two consecutive games.

Next for HHS is a Frontier Athletic Conference finale at Jackson on Thursday, Feb. 12 at JHS. A win by HHS will give them a share of the FAC with McClain. HHS last won a conference championship in girls basketball in 2001 when they were a member of the SBAAC (Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference).
