Lady Indians gain 11th win; win twice in 2 days against Miami Trace

Tuesday and Wednesday saw the Hillsboro Lady Indians gain consecutive wins over the Miami Trace Lady Panthers in a home-and-home series, resulting in HHS defeating MTHS 7-0, then by a 9-7 score the following day.

In the Frontier Athletic Conference game on Tuesday (April 15), the Lady Indians shut out Miami Trace in the seven-run win, with Hillsboro scoring six of their runs in the bottom of the second inning, followed by one run in the bottom of the sixth.

HHS began the bottom of the second inning with a Chloe Roberts walk, followed by a walk from Addley Miller. Two outs were recorded on a pop up and sacrifice bunt by Reagan Clemons for the second out, as both runners advanced a base.

Two runs crossed home plate on a double by Madison Dearmon off a ball hit to deep right field, with Roberts and Miller scoring the two runs for the 2-0 lead.

The two-out scoring continued with a double by Addie Huff, scoring Dearmon, then Mylea Fridley smashed a single to centerfield, scoring Huff for a 4-0 advantage. Hillsboro’s lead went to five runs when Meredith Dietrick singled to left field, scoring Fridley.

Hillsboro’s sixth run of the inning crossed home plate where Cam Spruell reached first base on an error, allowing Dietrick to score a run.

The seventh and final run for Hillsboro was plated in the bottom of the sixth inning when Miller singled to centerfield, scoring Spruell, who initially reached the bases on a two-out single to left field.

Dietrick finished the game with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, while also scoring a run and collecting one RBI. Also with two hits was Miller, who finished 2-for-2 with a double, one run, one RBI and two walks.

Fridley went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Teammate Spruell was 1-for-3 with a run, one steal and one walk.

The Lady Indians also had Dearmon finish 1-for-3 (a double) with one run and two RBI. Huff ended her day at 1-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI. Clemons finished the game with a SAC, one stolen base and she was hit by a pitch.

In the circle, Spruell finished with the complete seven innings pitched. She allowed no run on one hit and three walks with 18 strikeouts, while throwing 121 pitches, 82 for strikes.

Wednesday (April 16) the Hillsboro Lady Indians defeated the host Miami Trace Lady Panthers 9-7 as MTHS had a strong rally in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Frontier Athletic Conference win for Hillsboro included a stout start to the game for the Lady Indians, scoring four runs in the top of the first, following by a run in both the second and third innings for a 6-0 lead.

Miami Trace answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and HHS came back with a three more runs in the top of the fifth for a 9-2 lead. Miami Trace made things interesting with five runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Hillsboro held off the hard-charging Lady Panthers for the two-run win.

The FAC wins the past two days move Hillsboro’s overall record to 11-1 this season and 6-0 in the FAC, as their FAC winning streak improves to 46 consecutive games.

As for the 13 hits by Hillsboro, they had Meredith Dietrick finish 3-for-5 with a double, one steal, three runs and one RBI. Also with a three-hit game was Isabelle Brunck, who was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.

Cam Spruell went 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs and three RBI. Also with two hits was Madison Dearmon at 2-for-3 with one run, a hit by pitch, and two RBI. Addie Huff collected two hits as well, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple and one run.

Addley Miller ended the game at 1-for-2 with a run, one RBI and three walks. Chloe Roberts scored a run and had a steal, while Reagan Clemons had one RBI, and Rilynn Swisshelm finished with one walk.  

Spruell in the win in the circle finished with seven innings pitched, allowing seven runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with 19 strikeouts. She finished the game with 131 pitches, 87 for strikes.
