Indians shut out Eastern, fall to Goshen in recent games

Tuesday in a five-inning rain-shortened game, the Hillsboro Indians defeated the Eastern Warriors in non-conference action by a 7-0 score at HHS. 

The May 13 game saw HHS score all seven of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. HHS finished the game with five hits and no errors, while Eastern totaled two hits and one error. 

Five HHS players finished with one hit, with leadoff batter Zack Brown going 1-for-2 with one run and a walk. Walker Pence was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. 

The Indians also had Wesley Bailey finish 1-for-2 with a run, RBI and walk. Brody Kelch finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Brady Juillerat went 1-for-3. 

HHS saw Nate Lane score a run and walk once, while teammate Luke Holland finished with an RBI and a walk. Dylan Bender also scored a run and had a walk. Jeven Hochstuhl walked three times and scored a run. 

Bailey, Pence and Hochstuhl (two) all were credited with steals. 

Holland was the winning pitcher, finishing with five innings on the mound, as he allowed no runs on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

On Wednesday May 14 the Indians lost on the road at Goshen in non-conference play by a 10-0 score in six innings as errors haunted the Indians in the loss. 

HHS finished with four hits and five errors. Goshen totaled six hits and had no errors. 

Goshen scored three runs in the bottom of the first, followed with two runs in the second, three runs in the fourth inning, and two final runs in the sixth. 

Nate Lane was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk for Hillsboro, while Walker Pence went 1-for-3, and Zach Brown was 1-for-3. Wesley Bailey forced a walk for HHS. 

Brady Juillerat was charged with the tough-luck loss as he allowed just one earned run in three innings. He finished allowing three hits, three walks and had two strikeouts. 

Dylan Bender pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no earned runs off three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. 

HHS now stands at 6-12 overall this season.
