The Hillsboro Indians had their undefeated streak of three straight wins to start the 2025 season come to a stop on Friday night (Sept. 12) as they lost on the road against the Williamsburg Wildcats by a 26-7 score.

The Indians didn’t have their best game of the season on Friday, trailing 20-0 at halftime, and in the game they had two players ejected due to personal foul penalties.

Hillsboro also didn’t score their first points until the second half with 8:55 left in the fourth quarter as Mason Dumpert rushed for a 54-yard score. For the game, the Indians totaled 184 yards rushing and 34 yards passing for a total of 218 yards of offense.

Jack Cornele led the Indians with 15 carries for 78 yards rushing, while Tre Captain totaled nine carries for 30 yards. HHS also had Dumpert total 51 yards on six carries. Jeven Hochstuhl totaled six carries for 25 yards. Collin Swackhamer finished the game with six carries for 54 yards. Landon Jordan finished with one reception for 54 yards.

Williamsburg’s first touchdown of the game came with 4:59 left in the first quarter when following a sack on the previous play by Malachi Aber that made it fourth and long, the Wildcats saw Troy Harris pass to Grady Barber for a 41-yard touchdown. They made the 2-point conversion, as Barber caught that pass as well for an 8-0 lead.

The Wildcats made their lead 14-0 with 36 seconds left in the second quarter when a pass from Harris to Barber for 14 yards put them back into the end zone. The 2-point play failed, but the Wildcats still led 14-0.

Barber caught his third touchdown of the game when he had another 14-yard score with 14 seconds left in the second quarter, as the Wildcats regained back possession quickly following their previous score off a squib kick. The 2-point try was again no good, leaving WHS ahead at 20-0 once halftime arrived.

Hillsboro cut into the lead of Williamsburg when Dumpert scored his previously mentioned touchdown with 8:55 left in regulation. The PAT by Cooper Swope was good, making the score 20-7.

WBHS scored one final touchdown when Harris raced to the end zone for a 32-yard score with 6:13 left on the fourth-quarter clock.

The loss sends HHS to an overall record of 3-1, while Williamsburg improves to 4-0.

Hillsboro will play next in Week 5 on Friday, Sept. 19 at home (Richards Memorial Field) at 7 p.m. against the Ponitz Career Tech Golden Panthers (0-4) from Dayton.
